Description
Ridge-gourd is a rewarding vegetable to grow at home. This specific variety produces medium-long fruits with a thick, fleshy pulp. Follow this simple steps to grow them successfully in your garden.
🌱 Sowing & Planting Instructions:
- Seed Preparation: Soak the seeds in a bowl of water for 2 to 3 hours before planting.
- Direct Sowing: Sow the seeds directly into the ground or use a pot that is at least 12×12 inches. You do not need to grow seedlings first.
- Soil Cover: Cover the seeds with fine cocopeat. Do not let the soil dry out completely.
- Germination Trick: Cover the pot with a jute bag or dry grass. This traps heat and helps the seeds germinate much faster.
- Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but never soggy.
☀️ Ideal Growing Conditions:
- Sunlight: Ridge-gourd plants need full sun and cannot grow well in shady areas.
- Temperature: They thrive best in warm weather between 20°C and 35°C.
🐝 Handing Pollination & Harvesting:
- Better Pollination: A common problem is a lack of pollination. To fix this, grow flower plants nearby or plant 2 to 3 Ridge-gourd plants close to each other.
- Higher Yield: Pick your Ridge-gourds frequently! Regular harvesting encourages the plant to grow even more fruit.
Note: For best germination results, use all the seeds within 2 weeks after reaching you. For growing seedlings use a fine mixture of soil/sand, Coco-peat & compost in 1:3:1 ratio. For more information check out how to sow seeds.
